[Image taken 4.2.23] Esplanade cycle parking, West Esplanade/Wellington Row (below Lendal Bridge), York. These racks are within easy walking distance of the city centre. For people on this side of the city/river you can avoid the queuing traffic and pollution on Lendal Bridge. Lendal Bridge (Museum Street) is also infamous among local cyclists for motorists fast- and close-passing even if you ride assertively. Drivers will simply intimidate you out of the way. The Bella Bike (bellabike.dk/) owner is using the sign to secure her cycle. This arrangement strikes me as good practice. As with at the ends of racks if sufficient space is intentionally or fortuitously left there is room to secure a larger or wider design. I think the sign might need to be moved further back to accommodate cycles that are not self-supporting. You need more space in front. Including for 'York' cycles - set up for utility use or people or pet-carrying, with large baskets on front, for example. Giving the cycle parking an identity and providing locking advice is also good practice. (See also: #190824, #190841) Other images here today: #190736, #190737, Other image today: #190738.
